Made In France

Five days ago Kali, Hansi, Steven and I hopped on a plane to Geneva or rather we hopped on three planes.
There were some nice views from the planes.

And we had lots of fun on the “people movers”

Then we had a scenic three hour taxi ride to Tignes.
Unfortunately we were all so tired from the plane ride that we slept through half the ride.

Four days ago we went skiing for the first time since April! We have to take the “funiculaire” to the glacier. The first train leaves at 8:30am and trying to get on it is CRAZY. So many people try to get in at once you really have to fight your way through, it is kinda scary.

At the top of the mountain it’s about 3500m elevation and it’s beautiful.

The dangerous thing about glaciers is the crevasses. The funny thing is the person in the “danger crevasses” sign. I have a better picture of the funny sign, but it won't let me upload it. Oh well.

It’s really, really beautiful up here.

At the bottom of the mountain where the village is, it’s pretty much summer time. There is a lake called “Le Lac”. Why would you call a lake “the lake”? I don’t know.

But it has a nice walk way going all around it.
On Wednesday Kali, Hansi and I went for a walk around Le Lac.

At the other side of Le Lac there’s a playground that we got distracted by.

While we were walking around Le Lac we met Steven and then we went for a hike up the golf course for dryland.

Steven and Hansi had some fun rolling down the course.

And Hansi showed off his insane jumping abilities.

Today is the end of Day 3 on skis and it feels great. It feels like we’ve been skiing for a lot longer already. Here ski season is in full swing, even kids about 8-10 years old are skiing gates on the glacier this early on. It’s a really great atmosphere, I no longer feel like a crazy person when I’m doing strange agility exercises because there is people everywhere doing stuff like that. There is always people doing dryland in the streets and it really shows how much more intense the ski racing is in Europe. Another really cool thing is that right now the Canadian men’s ski team is here training! Today I met Manny Osborne Paradis for the first time and we talked to Jan Hudec who we met before when he came to talk to the Ski Academy. It’s really awesome to be here with all those guys and they’re all really nice. We’ve made it our goal to talk to the entire team…maybe. So far none of us are experiencing any altitude sickness, which is good, and we seemed to have avoided jet lag pretty well. The food (particularly the desserts…) is AMAZING. Each day they have new kinds of dessert, so far we haven’t been able to resist trying at least one of the many desserts each day after dinner. The weather has also been really good so far, it’s been nice and sunny and warm but it looks like the weather might be changing soon.

There is already so much to say about these few days but I have so little time! It’s taken me 3 days to write all of this. And unfortunately we have very limited internet access but we’re working on getting something better worked out.

Oh and I learned that I'm bad at French.

  1. Una! Yay you posted something! I was waiting for pictures and here they are. I'm so incredibly jealous of you guys, which you know, of course. And I miss you too. Enjoy it while you're there.
Oh! And I'm so happy you're enjoying the food, too! I was worried that you'd go all healthy racer on France and deny their food. Good girl for eating dessert.
And finally, the last comment, I had to laugh. Because learning French online does nothing.
    Love you and miss you!
