Last Weekend of Summer
This weekend is my last weekend before I go back to high school one last time. Part of me is really really sad that I'm going to have to start waking up at 7am and do boring things (math) all day long. The other part of me is excited to start doing something different than what I've been doing for the last 2 months (eat, sleep, dryland, part time job, more dryland, other part time job, more dryland, kayaking). School starting up again is also always a sign that winter is approaching and I am itching to get back on snow. My feelings towards school aside, I have been making the most of this last bit of summer (although the weather is making it feel more like fall already!). On Saturday the Columbia river's water level dropped just below 3.8 meters, to most people this is nothing but a number but if you're a white water kayaker this means that THE PLAYBOATING IN TRAIL IS AMAZING. It would be even better if we got down to 3.5 meters but it's great none the less. My dad and I spent 2 hours kayaking on Saturday until the sun went down and then I came home and ran sprints. Then today, I biked about 30km in 3 hours 20km were (fairly steep) uphill but the last 10 were thankfully a nice downhill. At the end of my nice long ride I helped my dad and brother load some firewood into our truck and got a ride back home. Then after a quick lunch my dad and I went back to the river and paddled for another hour and a half in the spectacular conditions that should last until the end of October. Unfortunately I was a bit tired by the time we started paddling so I didn't paddle very hard. I'm very sad to know that I won't have time to go paddling 4 out of the possible 7 days in a week because of my jobs but, C'est la vie!
